Travelling by road from Calais

IMG_6110smalld

When we travel to Puligny, we like to avoid Paris (regardless of what Satnav might say). This is due to possible delays on the Peripherique.

We advise taking the A26 via Reims and Troyes then the A5 and A31 to the A6 on which the Beaune exit is only 2km south.

Follow signs towards Meursault, Chagny and Chalon (on the D974). Once you are in Meursault, follow the signs to Puligny (about 3km) and turn right into Grande rue when you see a very large bunch of grapes (in bronze!) on the right.

Our route takes about six hours with one stop for tea.

Travelling by train from London

The Eurostar service to Paris takes about 2.5 hours (remember to allow for the time difference). You arrive at Gare du Nord. From Paris you can either go to Dijon  or Montchanin on the TGV (both of which are about 45 minutes by road from the house) from Gare de Lyon. A local rail service is available from Dijon to Beaune. Car rentals are available at Dijon, Beaune  or Montchanin.

Taxis from Beaune

Please note that guests have found the service at Beaune railway station to be very flaky. Please do not turn up on the off-chance! Book ahead – we can help with that…

Travelling by air

The nearest airports are Lyon Saint Exupery (about 2 hours from Puligny) and Geneva (about 1.5 hours plus chocolate buying opportunities).

Paris Orly airport is about 3 hours away. Charles De Gaulle airport is probably four hours away (you have to cross Paris). In our view, the best way of getting to us from CDG is as follows:

As for getting to Puligny from CDG, the high level route to follow is:

  • Head South towards Paris but do not take the A1 to Porte La Chapelle whatever your SatNav says!
  • Take the A3 towards Porte Bagnolet. Again, do not take the A86 which is a very convoluted route.
  • Go round the Boulevard Peripherique to the East of Paris to Porte d’Italie and exit onto the A6 towards Lyon.
  • Follow the A6 to Beaune (about 2.5 hours if you don’t like long breaks).
  • Come off the motorway at the first Beaune exit you find, go straight into the centre where you will hit the Beaune boulevard peripherique. Go round it and exit onto the D974 towards Chalon and Meursault.
  • After about 10km you get to Puligny and the bunch of grapes at the bottom of Grande Rue.. (see picture above).
